  4. Talent or No Talent? That is the Question…

    30/10/2011

    Bonsoir mes amies.

Fill the need to spill something out of my chest, so here it is:

Talent. Everyone wants to have one but only a selected handful have it. For some, it comes naturally, for others, they have to work hard for it.

Yes, talent would you that upper hand and advantage in life. It makes you feel like you can accomplish anything and everything. Opportunities would just come across you so easily. However, you can be just as successful at life without talent.

You need to pave your own path, one brick at a time. Work what you’ve got. Go on more to find some inspiration, find that motivation and find that dedication and stick with it, then you have what it takes to be successful. Block out the bad. With that mindset, you can accomplish anything. I honestly can’t see why you can’t.

It’s just funny how jealousy can turn people around and quite possibly, make them feel so depressed. I feel as if they need to remove those bad influences if they [the bad influences] are going to have a negative impact on their lives. But sometimes it’s not achievable or easy to do which I understand. But please do try to ignore the mean/bullying/disapproval as much as you can.  Be yourself, that’s what we, those who love you, could ever ask for. There’s really no need to seek for constant approval, especially from us. Otherwise you’ll be a bitter person for the rest of you life and no one wants that for you.

But if having talent is something you really desire or strive for, then great but what are you going to do about it? Are you going to sit there and make excuses for yourself such as the fact you’re too old? No, because we all know that that’s not always the case. For some things, yes that excuse would apply (e.g. in gymnastics) but there’s PLENTY of other things out there that you easily can pick up and learn if you’re keen. You can be good at whatever that thing may be but it just takes time and practice.

Talent is not everything. You don’t always need it. Sometimes you just need to work what you’ve got. But sometimes you need to remember there are less fortunate people out there. In their eyes you would be considered the lucky one no matter how normal/average you are. And being normal/average is not always bad label to have. In fact, it’s often a great thing to be. Don’t take it for granted. Nevertheless your friends and family will always love you and support you the way you are no matter what - talent or talentless. I, for one, will always be proud of my friends and family. And even yes, the ordinary ones. You know who you are.

  8. Gold Rush

    22/9/2011

    Why hello there…

Yes I know, I’m so sorry. It indeed has been a while since I last wrote a blog post and the only reasons why I can explain my long absence are: uni, laziness and having nothing interesting going on in my life for me to write about. But if you really do love me that much (or more likely want to really stalk me), I suggest you follow my Twitter feed because I pretty much update that thing almost every day. Please forgive me? Also, just got home from a massive day trip today and on the way back, I had been drinking that enormous can of Mother (the energy drink). So I’m going to be WIDE awake for a while…Hence this blog post.

Alrighty let’s get down to today’s events shall we?

Today we, the group of 8, ventured to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. I’ll fast forward through the hours and boring bits of me driving the car, me singing ever so loudly in the car and ruining everyone’s ears, and me binge eating everything while driving. But basically, having left the Glen at 9am we finally arrived at Sovereign Hill at 12pm (the trip there was long because we had a pit stop at Ballan for an hour or so). First thing we did was pan for gold and seriously, it’s some back-aching stuff. Oh man. In the hour of panning for gold, I was able to find a tiny speck of the precious element which was quite exciting! However, I was the last of the group to do so - everyone else had already found a couple. Nevertheless, this was quite a vast improvement for me considering the last time I was there (year 6 to be exact), I had found none.

After panning, we pretty much walked all around Sovereign Hill understanding what it was like to live and work in the late 1800s, how the environment, equipment, life, etc was so much more different and difficult compared to our lives today. Especially if you were Asian. Cause then you would’ve been subjected to racism and discrimination, and thus your life at the minefields would’ve really sucked. However, Sovereign Hill made me wish I had a time-travelling machine and travelled back to this period. I would love to experience life at these times. It would be so interesting!

We went to an underground mine tour, checked out demonstrations of lolly making, did some old school bowling and watched a gold pouring demonstration. Furthermore, Li-Ming and I went crazy and bought a whole heap of lollies. Consequently we had been on a sugar high all day…I should add though, this would also include the huge amount of food we ate in the car.

I remember back in year 6 camp at Sovereign Hill, all us kids went bat shit crazy over a drink called ‘Cola Beer’…Well I wanted to relive that moment and ended up buying what has been renamed ‘Original Kola’ from the General Store. I was quite disappointed to see that the price of the drink had gone up to $3.50 where back in 2003 it was $2 (damn you inflation!) and also, drinking the drink didn’t quite live up to the hype and the memory I had of it…Which brings me to this question, what kind of crazy (and possibly f-ed up) kid was I?!

Anyway, having spent a good 5 hours in Sovereign Hill, we checked out the Gold Museum then drove to the city of Ballarat. We actually didn’t do much there aside from walking up and down a particular road and just basically having a nice group chat. Once that was all over, we were back on the road again but this time, on the way home!

Except we didn’t go all the way home. We originally wanted to have dinner at the newly opened Ikea in Springvale but because we had gotten there a bit past 8pm (the store closes at 9), I ended up taking the group on a car tour of the Ikea carpark. So for dinner, we ended up going to Springvale and having some Vietnamese food. Li-Ming and I shared a massive bowl of Pho and a ‘3 Coloured’ drink. I came out feeling obese but had the enough will-power to drive Li-Ming and Jason home.

So yes. That was my day. A big one to say the least. But it was the most fun I had cause I got to spend it with the most amazing people I know.

And one last thing, if you wanted a brief overview of what I had been doing the past few months, here it is: uni, studying, working, Twittering, lurking on Reddit (love that site), playing Sims 3, watching my favourite TV shows, movies with my work mate Anna, PT with my awesome cousin Leanne and her friend (our trainer) Shantini, running, fun runs (just recently ran 12.7km in Brooks Spring into Shape fun run, creating new PBs for 5km, 10km and 12.7km. Time for 12.7km was 01:13:35), uncle from China visiting us for a month, and being a (fat) slob. Yes, such is life.

    Until next time folks!

Selfless Act of the Day: A daring rescue of a motorcyclist trapped under a burning vehicle in Logan, Utah, was caught on tape by a Utah State University employee who happened to be filming a lecture nearby.

The video shows Brandon Wright being pulled from the flaming wreckage by a number of Good Samaritans who rushed to lift the 4,000-pound car off Wright’s motionless body.

“Absolutely, they are heroes,” said camera operator Chris Garff. “What those people did was … a very selfless act and they should be commended for it.”

Wright is currently in the hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
